Light bulb broken off at hub?

When changing a light bulb it broak off at the hub. If I just turn off the power to the light switch is it safe to remove the remaining hub or do I have to turn off the main power at the fuse box? Thanks

we used to cut off a wooden broomstick, wrap electrical tape around it, stick in up there and unscreew it, or if in a hurry use some insulated pliers. Ive been shocked before doing this, so its not 100% safe if you arent careful. Its probably only a 120, so no big deal. If you are scared, turn off the main power, no sense taking chances.

use a potato to turn the hub. If you peel it so that it fits tightly you just push it in and turn left. It has worked every time for me.
as long as you have no help it should be safe . the help could turn on the switch . if you have help turn off both !
You should be ok just making sure the switch is off. If you have a problem removing it use a pair of needle-nose pliers and spread them inside the hub and twist it out that way.
Turn off the switch and if you can keep it in sight, it should

be o.k. for the quick moment to remove the %26quot;hub%26quot; use a

potato as one of the other folks mentioned and it should

be done in no time
i would turn off the main power just to be safe then use a potato cut it in half and shove it onto it and turn
As long as the light switch is turned off you are safe. This used to happen to me all the time, I bought the cheapest light bulbs I could find. I have upgraded to energy saver compact flourescent bulbs in almost everything and it has not happened to me since. Plus it has made a small difference in the power bill. I found a great source on line for better pricing on these because they are pretty expensive.
