Light bulb blew and now no light bulbs will work in that socket?

I flicked on the light-switch and the bulb went, so I changed the bulb, but the new bulb wouldn't work either. I then tried two other new bulbs, and still no luck.

The %26quot;fuse-switch thing%26quot; (sorry鈥擨 don't know the term) on the box wasn't down, so it's not just a case of putting that back up. Also, I tried putting it down and back up (the one for the downstairs lights), and it still won't work.

It could also be your light switch. They are cheap and if the light is controlled by only one switch it is very easy to replace. Switches can some times be hard to test if there is no ground or neutral in the junction box. So if nothing else works just replace it.

First thing I'd do if the second light bulb didn't work would be to try that light bulb in a different socket you know is working. That will pinpoint the fixture as the problem.
Ive seen this problem before. You may need a new light fixture. If your renting your landlord will cover the expense and install it.
Check the circuit breaker.
The lights in my bathroom are connected through a GFI receptacle for the sink. You might try checking any receptacles and plugging in a hair dryer or radio and make sure that the receptacles works, if not reset it and that may fix your problem.

If that does not work then you might look at the base of the light fixture and make sure that the tab is not depressed so much that it is not making contact with the light bulb base. I turn off the power to the fixture and using a stick pry up the tab. That has fixed a couple of such problems for me. The other thing that I will do sometimes is look at the base of the bulbs and if the base center contact does not look like a small dome, I will add solder to the contact to build it up and that will also fix some problems.

The circuit breaker in the box does not always look like it is tripped so your check of turning if off and back on is a good one. Some circuit breakers if you gently try to move it will feel looser if it is tripped.

Check a couple of outlets that the circuit breaker also provides power aand if they work then the circuit breaker is working. If they do not then it is possible that the circuit breaker panel is labelled incorrectly. Check some of the other breakers.

If everything works except the light fixture then either it is defective or the connection at the last outlet has become disconnected. This may work to try and find where the break is, find a cheap AM radio and turn it to a position on the dial that is not a station, when you move the radio near an electrical wire, if it is live you will hear the interference. If you follow the electrical wires then you may find where the break occurs.

good luck.
